Lemon House under the Stars

Walking between the white, illuminated pillars while smelling the scent of citrus fruits is undoubtedly one of the most iconic experiences to be had at the Limonaia del Castèl.

“You know the land where the lemons bloom,
golden oranges glow among the dark leaves,
a gentle breeze blows from the blue sky,
the myrtle remains motionless and the laurel stands tall,
Do you know her, perhaps?
Over there
With you, my love, I would like to go’.

Fascinated and impressed by the shores of Lake Garda, Goethe in this sonnet perfectly succeeds in conveying the emotion he felt during his trip to the Bel Paese.
The Garda lemon groves are terraced cultivations introduced in the 17th century by the Franciscans: the first citrus fruit harvest outside Naples was almost miraculous, but the microclimate of the lake made it possible to grow lemon and orange trees, taking advantage of the shelter provided by rocks and cypresses.
To this day, the Garda lemon groves are the most northerly citrus cultivations in the world.
Limonaia sotto le stelle is an organised event where the Limonaia del Castèl is opened to the public at an unusual time, i.e. from 20:00 to 23:00.
It will be possible to visit the well-known cultivated terraces to the sound of music, in an evocative setting under the glow of the stars. At the end of the experience, it will be possible to taste the different products such as citrons, lemons, sweet and bitter oranges, chinottos, grapefruits, mandarins, kumquats and their liqueurs.
